We are approximately a 30 minute drive out of Whangarei City so you would definitely need a car. There is no public transport or Uber and Taxi's can be very expensive. However, it is a beautiful coastal drive.

There is an airport in Whangarei if you wanted to fly up from Auckland for instance and here you could arrange a hire car.
