Feel yourself unwind as you float in lush waterholes with misty waterfalls nestled among the dramatic landscapes of Litchfield National Park. 60 minutes south of Darwin Litchfield is possibly the Northern Territory’s best-kept secret.

The park is filled with stunning waterfalls and waterholes that are surrounded by monsoonal vine forests – all of which offer a cool respite on warm summer days.

A drive through Litchfield is full of contrasts and some of the most enormous termite mounds in the Top End.

Litchfield National Park is an ancient landscape shaped by water. It features numerous stunning waterfalls which cascade from the sandstone plateau of the Tabletop Range.

Covering approximately 1500 sq km, Litchfield contains representative examples of most of the Top End’s natural habitats. Intriguing historical sites and the weathered sandstone pillars of the Lost City are a must-see. Take the boardwalk to a ‘graveyard’ of two-metre tall headstones. These magnetic termite mounds are feats of insect architecture oriented with the sun to keep the termites cool in baking conditions. Keep your eyes peeled for hundreds of species of fauna.

Whilst shady monsoon forest walks provide retreats from the heat of the day. Aboriginal people have lived throughout the area for thousands of years. It is important to the Koongurrukun, Mak Mak Marranunggu, Werat and Warray Aboriginal people whose Ancestral Spirits formed the landscape, plants and animals and are still present in the landscape today.

Every corner of Litchfield is full of natural waterfalls and plunge pools. Listen to the ancient lands as you set off on the several walking tracks the park has to offer. Engage your sense of adventure on your very own 4x4 outback adventure. Be sure to see the sandstone relics of The Lost City and gain a new appreciation for early pioneers at the ruins of Blyth Homestead.
